Get a Taste of Life on the Water and Discover Boating

I participated in an Ambassador Program on behalf of Mom Central Consulting for Discover Boating.
I received a promotional item to thank me for my participation.

Well we’re about half way through summertime, have you been boating yet?

I only gone boating a couple times this summer. And I’m SO bummed about that. We, as parents, go boating so much less than we did when we were kids and that’s just plain wrong! Mike and I keep talking about boating with our kids. We grew up boating, me more than him. I practically lived on the water, we spent most weekends on lakes. I am dying to get the kids out more!  The most we have done is rented small fishing boats and pontoon boats when we visit a state park in our area. It’s pretty pricey though, and that’s why it would be better to purchase our own boat. When we’re ready to take that next step, I’ll be turning to for help and guidance.

Discover Boating is an online resource packed with interactive features to familiarize people with all aspects of the water including a boat selector guide, cost comparison tool, renting options, favorite boating destinations, links to education courses – even nautical lingo and how-to videos. Plus, offers tools and information for experienced boaters looking to learn more.

Discover Boating and Jake Owen

Discover Boating is sponsoring country music star, Jake Owen’s, Day’s of Gold tour to inspire fans to get a taste of life on the water.

“Growing up on the water, boating has always been a part of my life. I can’t think of anything better than floating down the water, drinking a cold beverage and hanging with your friends.” – Jake Owen

Check out what Jake Owen has to say about life on the water and be sure to watch his video too.

Our Boating Memories

Every time I think about boating, I am brought back to putting my older three kids in the paddle boat at my dad’s cabin. We’d paddle over to the other side of the lake (it was a small lake). On the other side there was a beach and then the pool house. We’d play at the beach for a couple hours and then we’d head to the pool for a while. When we were done, we’d paddle on back to the ‘house’ and they’d all fall asleep. I miss that so much. I remember Gracie’s first time boating too. She was so curious.

We live right on the Fox River in Illinois and it goes on forever and ever… it’s so pretty.

I think it’s about time we take that next step and own our own boat so we can go out anytime we want. Living right on the Fox River has it’s advantages, and boating is surely one of them! We have a lot of marinas and so many places to go.

Do you have plans to get out on the water this summer?

Already been out? What have you done?

  1. I haven’t been out on a boat in forever. I used to go out all the time when I was younger.

  2. I live on a lake and we love the water. I have so many fun memories raising the kids on the water. FUN TIMES!

  3. I have a friend that just got a boat, and her family is on the water every chance they get. Sometimes they just lay on the boat and don’t do anything. They just chill with the waves for hours. I need a boat…

  4. We have my husbands grandfathers old boat. Its seriously from the 60s or 70s. My husband has huge dreams of restoring it. Will be nice to get back out on the water again.

  5. Well I live in Trinidad and my family has a house on one of the small islands, so we are no strangers to boating. As a child, I went almost every weekend. As an adult, it’s not nearly as much. I want to start going back more regularly and re-taking boating lessons. I learnt how to drive our boat when I was 12 years old!!!

  6. That looks like great fun! It reminds me that we are long overdue in getting our son out in a boat!

  7. Love to boating. Used to do that a lot when kids were younger.

    • Big help, big help. And sulrpeative news of course.

    • Thank you for the sensible critique. Me and my neighbor were just preparing to do a little research on this. We got a grab a book from our local library but I think I learned more from this post. I’m very glad to see such fantastic information being shared freely out there.

  8. We don’t usually get to go boating. I hope to take the kids on a little day cruise soon!

  9. The paddle boat at your dad’s cabin sounds awesome. Boating is a lot of fun, and it can be very peaceful too.

  10. It’s been a couple of years since we’ve been boating (but we love it when we do go!) We’ve been to the beach and to the pool a LOT this summer.

  11. We’ve been out quite a few times this summer. We have a boat and go fishing often with all 4 kids. The last time we went, we went scalloping. so fun

  12. I love boating. I took my middle son on a camping trip and we got to go on a boat it was so much fun

  13. It’s been forever since I’ve been boating! I’d love to get out there again with my kids.

  14. I’ve never gone boating before and it looks like it can be quite fun. I just can’t swim though and I’m always scared that something may happen to me when I’m on the water. 🙁

    • Wonderful explnaation of facts available here.

    • I finally stopped blogging about what I read in the Inquirer, as it only serves to send my blood pressure through the roof. I only occasionally skim the op-ed, now, for fear of writing more letters to them. It’s so frustrating to see the swag that gets printed, knowing that even if they did get around to posting your letter, by that time, the public would be like “Tom who??!!”. I accept the frustration and head back to my own little space. I always know that you’ve got our back and won’t let ’em slide for even a moment. Peace.

    • That’s the best answer by far! Thanks for contributing.

    • I’d say it’s an even better day to publish a controversial Energy Bill. Second on the BBC website as I write, but I don’t think second is going to cut much mustard amongst the navel-gazing and point-scoring that will go on today.   6 likes

    • Kalau saya masih suka Jenang Keranjang Mbak… Bukan keranjang sich, tapi seperti tampah kecil terbuat dari bambu. Aromanya wangi.

  15. I don’t miss boating. I lived on a boat for… 2 years? when i was a kid (we were pretty much homeless)… it was fun at the time but i would NEVER do it again. too cramped. add that on to the fact that i haven’t touched the water since i watched JAWS at age 12 😛

but other people enjoy it so i wont rain on their parade. i’ve just had some bad experiences.

  16. I grew up on the Mississippi River and the Wisconsin River so boating was pretty much a big part of our life. I no longer live in that area but my siblings continue to enjoy the water and own boats. When I go back, I always try and go out on the river.

  19. No boating here! Looks like a lot of fun but I get sooo sick so I’m sure I wouldn’t be able to enjoy fully!

  20. We love to take a boat out on to the lake! It’s something we do quite often together as a family.

  21. Camping, fishing, and boating are all big parts of my childhood. We still camp but haven’t owned a boat in years. Maybe someday soon we will again.

  22. I remember boating with my grandparents when I was little. I’ll have to bring the kids sometime to make more great memories.

  23. We have not been boating in so long. I would love to take our boys out on a boat.
