World Down Syndrome Day: Wear LOTS OF SOCKS on 3/21 #WDSD14

World Down Syndrome Day is coming up in a few days on March 21st 2014. Get it? 3/21 is for 3 copies of the 21st chromosome, which is Trisomy 21, you know… Down Syndrome. And of course you all know that I am passionate about Down Syndrome because My Jack carries that extra chromosome, which makes him extra special to us. I love talking about My Jack and showing him off. Not only is he totally adorable and smart, but I love sharing our story.

World Down Syndrome Day: Wear LOTS OF SOCKS on 3/21 #WDSD14

Since this coming Friday is World Down Syndrome Day… I will be posting a few times this week random posts about Down Syndrome. Mike has been wanting to share this thoughts and my kids have been wanting to guest post so you’ll see a little bit about Down Syndrome from them too.

We found out Jack had Down Syndrome when I was about 15 weeks pregnant, although the tests leading up to this took a couple of weeks so we actually had an idea sooner than 15 weeks pregnant. Of course finding out that you will be having a child with a disability is devastating at first. I shared our very first emotions upon getting this news and would love for you to pass it along if you know someone who is pregnant with a child who will be born with Down Syndrome or if you know someone how has just had a baby with Down Syndrome. If you’d like to read any of my other updates on Jack or would like any other info on Down Syndrome, feel free to click on my Down Syndrome tab at the top of this page.

LOTS OF SOCKS

World Down Syndrome International is trying to create a global voice on March 21st by advocating for people with Down Syndrome so they launched LOTS OF SOCKS. On March 21st, wear LOTS OF SOCKS to get people talking about World Down Syndrome Day and to raise Down Syndrome awareness. Do not wear just any socks, but crazy mismatched socks. Me and my family participated last year and so did YOU! Lots of my friends and fans posted their crazy socks (in honor of My Baby Jack) to the WE HAVE IT ALL Facebook Fan Page. It was so touching to see the photos come in all day long!

Last year on World Down Syndrome Day at about 6am, I got a text from Mike.
He sent me this:

World Down Syndrome Day: Wear LOTS OF SOCKS on 3/21 #WDSD14

Along with this picture at 6am that woke me up, he sent me this message, “For JackieBoy”. I didn’t even know he was really paying attention to me when I was telling him about LOTS OF SOCKS for World Down Syndrome Day.

So this coming Friday March 21, 2014 – wear LOTS OF SOCKS for World Down Syndrome Day! And then snap a photo and send it to my WE HAVE IT ALL Facebook Fan Page! I’d LOVE to see your crazy socks!

  4. Wow that looks so great! Loved reading the post!

  5. I can’t say I know what you’ve been through when finding out about your baby’s condition but we can relate to that feeling at a smaller scale. We had our baby pretty late in life and we’ve been constantly reminded the high risk of Down syndrome. The whole pregnancy I was so terrified about it, in spite of all the tests giving us good feedback.

I’m looking forward to show my respect towards this special day and all the wonderful kids suffering from Down syndrome. Thanks for the heads up, I would’ve missed it otherwise.

  6. He is such a doll! My kids love crazy sock days, we’re totally doing this!

I just thought I would share that I love reading your WDSD14 post. My nephew was blessed with an extra 21 chromosome and is such a sweetie. Your Jack is so cute. I normally dont wear socks (since I live in the desert and wear flipflops) but I plan on doing LOTS OF SOCKS tomorrow and getting my hubby and daughter to also (that is if I can convince her to keep socks on bc at 11 moths she thinks they are for eating and not wearing).
