Duck Dynasty’s Phil Fired for Homosexual Comments? NO, He Was Fired for Being a Christian.

I’m very angry about this topic… so what’s a blogger to do but discuss it on the blog, right?

Last night I read an article on Yahoo about Phil Robertson from the Duck Dynasty show making “hateful anti-gay comments” as he was interviewed by GQ. My first thought was, “the Duck Dynasty family claim to be Christians, how could Phil make hateful homosexual comments?” So I read on.

Come to find out, he didn’t make hateful comments. He simply stated what God says about homosexuality in the bible. First of all, he was asked his opinion, and he gave it. Doesn’t that sound like a trap to you?

His words were this:

  • "Don’t be deceived. Neither the adulterers, the idolaters, the male prostitutes, the homosexual offenders, the greedy, the drunkards, the slanderers, the swindlers — they won’t inherit the kingdom of God," he warned. "Don’t deceive yourself. It’s not right." – which is a scripture in Corinthians and Ephesians. How is this hateful? He’s quoting the bible!
  • "It seems to me, a vagina — as a man — would be more desirable than a man’s anus," he explained. "That’s just me. I’m just thinking, ‘There’s more there! She’s got more to offer.’ I mean, come on, dudes! You know what I’m saying? But hey, sin: It’s not logical, my man. It’s just not logical." – This is HIS OPINION. IT IS NOT HATEFUL. It’s his opinion, in which he is entitled.
  • "We never, ever judge someone on who’s going to heaven, hell. That’s the Almighty’s job," he told the magazine. "We just love ‘em, give ‘em the good news about Jesus — whether they’re homosexuals, drunks, terrorists. We let God sort ‘em out later, you see what I’m saying?" – Did you read that?!? He said, “WE NEVER JUDGE” and he said, “WE LOVE THEM”. HOW IS THIS HATEFUL?!?

According to this Yahoo article,

GLAAD spokesman Wilson Cruz. "He clearly knows nothing about gay people or the majority of Louisianans — and Americans — who support legal recognition for loving and committed gay and lesbian couples. Phil’s decision to push vile and extreme stereotypes is a stain on A&E and his sponsors who now need to reexamine their ties to someone with such public disdain for LGBT people and families."

I’m confused. “He clearly knows nothing about the gay people”?!? – He doesn’t NEED to know about the gay people. He’s ONLY stating what the bible says about homosexuality and that he believes in what the bible says. HOW IS THIS WONG? And Phil is pushing “vile and extreme stereotypes” – HOW?!? He quoted a bible verse!

So basically, what this is saying, is that a person’s personal religious beliefs are wrong and not allowed.

The original Yahoo article was updated and there was a second Yahoo article posted to say this:

"We are extremely disappointed to have read Phil Robertson’s comments in GQ, which are based on his own personal beliefs and are not reflected in the series ‘Duck Dynasty.’ His personal views in no way reflect those of A+E Networks, who have always been strong supporters and champions of the LGBT community. The network has placed Phil under hiatus from filming indefinitely." – (A&E)

GLAAD issued the following statement in response to A&E’s decision, attributed to GLAAD spokesperson Wilson Cruz: "What’s clear is that such hateful anti-gay comments are unacceptable to fans, viewers, and networks alike. By taking quick action and removing Robertson from future filming, A&E has sent a strong message that discrimination is neither a Christian nor an American value."

Have I mentioned that I am confused?

“Such hateful anti-gay comments are unacceptable to fans” – he did not make HATEFUL anti-gay comments.

Phil Robertson from Duck Dynasty claims to be a Christian and QUOTED THE WORD OF GOD. If you do not like it, TAKE IT UP WITH GOD. Don’t blame Christians.

In an eonline article, Louisiana Governor, Bobby Jindal said, “It is a messed up situation when Miley Cyrus gets a laugh, and Phil Robertson gets suspended." – How true is that?

So much for freedom of religion, right?

I really hope the stupidity of A&E’s decision is fixed soon.

  1. Karen Glatt says:

I think this is so terrible! He is a Christian talking about his beliefs and he is called hateful! I am so mad about this! He was fired for being a Christian. The Bible is the truth of God’s word. We can not change what is says. The meaning is clear on his quoting of this Scripture!

  2. thank you for saying you are confused. I am too. He just quoted the Bible. I am so happy happy happy that he had the guts to do it-no matter the “cost”.

  3. You shouldn’t have to spread disinformation like this.
