My Bucket List for Upcoming Family Vacations

We’ve had a pretty good year for vacationing and traveling. We started in February by going to KeyLime Cove Indoor Waterpark which is only about 2 hours away from our home, and then we did a few more weekend getaways. In June we drove from Illinois down to Florida and spent a full two weeks on the road. We visited Rock City in Georgia, we stayed on Sanibel Island, Florida and then visited Disney World… and a bunch in between. After June, we were exhausted and wanted to stay put for a while. We are getting ready to visit Castle Rock Resort and WaterPark in Missouri but we’re not sure if we are going to do that before this year ends or wait until next year. I think it would make a good vacation over Thanksgiving or Christmas time.

We’ve talked a lot about where we’d like to go over the next few years with the kids and which places we might try for this upcoming year. Our main issue is that a lot of the places we’d like to visit would require a plane ride… and that’s a problem. Mike and I are both afraid to fly. We wonder if someday we might get the courage to do it because of these places we’d like to visit.

Here’s Our Bucket List (in no particular order):

  • California: We’d love to visit Alcatraz and visit the west coast beaches! The weather has to be amazing!
  • The East Coast in General: We’d love to visit all of the history Boston, Salem, Pennsylvania for all of the Gettysburg stuff – I think this would be a great history lesson for the kids!
  • North or South Carolina – because we want to scope out the area for possible relocation. We’d love to vacation in the Myrtle Beach area.
  • Arizona – we’d love to hike though the Grand Canyon!
  • Louisiana – New Orleans would be awesome!
  • Islands – Not sure where though. We’ve thought about the Cayman Islands, Bahamas, Hawaii, Islands off of Florida and we’re open for suggestions because we’re so clueless.
  • African Safari – I think this would be an amazing experience for the kids! I’ve checked out Tanzania safari holidays online and I am in love with the pictures. The kids would love this, and so would Mike!
  • Australia – I’d love to go backpacking through for a few weeks!
  • Italy – because that’s where our ancestors come from on my side, and Mike loves everything Italian… and even thinks he is sometimes haha!
  • Costa Rica – I’ve very interested in this place. I’d love to look into purchasing vacation property here!
  • Switzerland. I don’t know why haha… it just sounds like an interesting place.

So yeah, there are quite a few places we’ll need to fly to. We’ll have to come to terms with that one of these days! We’d miss out on so much if not.

What’s on your family vacation bucket list for the upcoming years?

We Have It All

  1. I’m a traveler too! My vacation bucket list would be waaay too long to even write down ha! It’s nice to see that yours has variety.

I have to say, Alcatraz was very educational and a trip up the coastline is sure worth every spectacular view.

Thanks for sharing, off to oogle all your dream destinations!!

  2. Wow it sounds like you had a great time. We don’t generally travel. We do local attractions in our area.

  3. I never had a ‘thing’ for Pinterest until I discovered I could pin places I’ve been or would like to go…then it was hard to get me off of there, lol. I’ve got so many places on my bucket list!

  4. New Zealand and Hawaii would be at the top of my list. Australia would be close with them, though. Great post. maybe I need to make my list, now.

  5. Ooh I love the road trip you all took, that sounds like such a wonderful time. There are so many places I’d love to go. I’ve been itching to make a visit to Ocean City in Maryland for quite a while now. Maybe when it warms up again 😉

  6. I love your bucket list! I have a bucket list as well. 🙂

  7. I want to do a cruise!! And Myrtle Beach is great. The South East is a great place to live – for us, anyway. 🙂 I refuse to relocate with my husband’s job!

  8. I am with you on Australia… I would also love Hawaii… the problem we have is finding something big enough for our family without costing an arm and leg!

  9. Great places to go and see! I’ve done half of them. Alcatraz is a fun place for kids. So much to do down by Fisherman’s Wharf. Love San Francisco. Italy…Make sure the kids are old enough to remember and mature enough not to drive you crazy on an 8 hour flight. 🙂

  10. My vacation bucket list is so long. I would love to backpack all over Europe before I get too old. New Zealand and Tahiti, too.

  11. North Carolina is great! I may be bias since I live here but we love it.

  12. Great list! I agree with many of your choices. Although, I am kind of afraid to go too far away from the country. We just need to go SOMEWHERE soon because it’s been too long!

  13. Africa and costa rica are at the top of my list! Great locations! hope you get to see them all!

  14. I love visiting different parts of the states and this sounds like a great one to visit.

  15. My husband and I have been to Costa Rica twice and we would really like to take the kids there. Great list!

  16. I would love to visit the Grand Canyon!! It’s on my Bucket List for sure!

  17. We want to visit Maine sometime and see the whales on a boat ride.

  18. A visit to California to see my aunts and hopefully a trip overseas, possibly London.

  19. Italy is awesome! I’ve been there a couple times. You need to add Ireland to your list! It is AMAZING!!!

  20. What a great idea to start a bucket list.I am so doing this with my kids, its going to be interesting to see what they come with.

  21. I love your bucket list. My sister went to Australia last summer and loved it. She highly recommends it.

  22. Alcatraz sounds like it would really be an interesting place to visit….. 😀

  23. Great list. We did Myrtle Beach for vacation this year and loved it! Australia is awesome.

  24. I’d love to go back to New Orleans. On our bucket list for the rest of the year? Probably just Destin, Florida.

  25. I really want to go to Europe! I’d love to visit Italy and Greece. My husband wants to go to Bali Indonesia to surf!

  26. I love your bucket list!

  27. Amy Lynn Desrosiers says:

That’s a cool bucket list! Gosh, Id need to add a vacation to mine period.

  28. Used to live in Myrtle Beach and definitely recommend it for relocation. 🙂 It’s my favorite place to be, especially during cold Pittsburgh winters.

  29. Italy and Scotland are on my bucket list!!
That photo is really great! Looks like a good time!

  30. I would love to go the Northeast Coast in the fall. Oh, the colors!

  31. I’ve never been much of a traveler, but I hope my husband and I can do some serious traveling once my son is an adult. 🙂 I would love to visit many of the places on your list, especially an African Safari, Australia, and my husband has an uncle who has lived in Costa Rica for the past 5 years, so maybe that one would be doable. We’d have a place to stay, anyway. 🙂

  32. I would love to go to London one day.

  33. I love this. I’ve made a list too, but not sure I’ll ever actually complete it. lol

  34. Ooh, what a great idea for a bucket list. I’d like to visit a lot of those places as well!

  35. I’d still like to get to Hawaii and Alaska, and I’ve been to all of the major national parks but I want to hit them all again!

  36. I’ve wanted to go to Italy since I met my husband…that’s on our combined bucket list. I’ve been to many cool places, but I still haven’t made it to Hawaii, so that’s on my list, too!

  37. Sounds like a great vacation year! Italy and New Orleans are also on my list of places to visit.

  38. Oh love it! We love to travel as well and look forward to exploring new places together. Hmmm I think we need to do a bucket list.

    Thanks for the idea

  39. Our family loves to travel. We have been a lot of places out of the country. So, our bucket list is to hit some places in the US that we haven’t been. The Grand Canyon and Yellowstone are on top of our list.

  40. I’ve been to a few of your bucket list places. Went to Myrtle Beach as a kid and then again this past summer. It’s okay…as far as beaches go, I think the Gulf of Mexico is nicer, but there’s a lot to do. Only been to California once, but my husband’s from there and would love to take me back to visit. Gettysburg is fun…loved the history. The Charleston area of SC is lovely. The Bahamas are okay…but I didn’t think they were that different than southern Florida (I’m sure plenty of people will disagree with me though). A safari would be a lot of fun! That would be cool. I spent a couple weeks in Ghana, but it was on the coast and far away from the preserves and parks. My favorite place on your bucket list is Australia. It is awesome! Went to the Gold Coast for the summer between my junior and senior year of college and would love to return. Actually, forget vacationing…I’d love to live there!

  41. I so want to do an African Safari also. I went to Singapore and Indonesia a few years ago and it was beautiful. I love to travel.

  42. Brandi Dawn says:

Great choices! I would gladly visit all of those places as well. You should add the Colorado Mountains 🙂
