2014 Kia Sorento SX Test Drive and Review

I’ve been a STI Test Drive Blogger for a couple of years now and really enjoy test driving the different cars they have to offer. I’ve become most familiar with Kia and that is probably why it’s become one of our favorites around here. Each new Kia we get to test drive, Mike swears up and down that we are going to buy it haha. We loved size and luxury of the 2012 Kia Sorento and the Kia Rio I decided was the perfect car for my two teen drivers to share. It is smaller but has all of the bells and whistles that makes it a really great car for young drivers. Our absolutely favorite was the Kia Optima Hybrid. So elegant, yet so sporty . That’s the one Mike won’t stop talking about… until this past week, that is.

We received the 2014 Kia Sorento SX AWD to test drive.

Some of the 2014 Kia Sorento SX AWD Features:

  • 3.3L V6 Engine
  • 6-Speed Automatic Transmission w/Sportmatic
  • EPA-estimated mileage city/highway (mpg): 18/24
  • 8”Display Navigation System with Backup Warning System
  • Blind Spot Detection System
  • FlexSteer Driver-Selectable Steering Assist (Standard, Sport or Comfort Modes)
  • Keyless Entry
  • Push-Button Start with Smart Key
  • Ventilated and Heated Front Seats
  • Panoramic Roof with Power Sun Shade

Of course, these are just some of my favorite features… there are so many more great ones.

My Thoughts:

Mike and I both love the size and luxury of the 2014 Kia Sorento, it’s really a beautiful car.

Mike’s favorite feature in the 2012 Kia Sorento was the steering feature. You can choose from Standard, Sport or Comfort Mode – the selector is on the steering wheel. I actually did not try these out and just drove it in Comfort Mode. Mike liked the Sport Mode best and said that fit his style of driving best.

This particular Sorento does not have the 3rd row of seating that the 2012 Kia Sorento did, however, in place of the 3rd row seating is the “Under-Rear-Cargo Floor Storage” area.  Maybe it’s silly to be so excited about this feature but I was. I LOVED this storage area! Mike and I went grocery shopping with Baby Jack and Gracie and filled up that whole area beneath that double stroller you see below! Grocery shopping for a family of 8 can get a little difficult when you have your car packed with car seats, strollers, kids and other stuff. Needless to say, we had plenty of room for our groceries.

And speaking of room… we were able to fit Gracie and Jack’s car seats in the back and one of my teen girls sat in the middle, between the car seats.

Of course, I do love this panoramic sunroof – it goes the whole length of the car!

A couple of other features I really loved with the heated and air conditioned seats. We’ve had some toasty weather here in Chicago so the air conditioned seats were great! I also love the blind spot indicator that flashes in the side mirrors when you turn on your turn signal. It lets you know if there is someone in your blind spot. I think this feature along with the Backup Warning System – GREAT safety features to have on a vehicle! Especially if you have two teens in your household learning to drive!

Overall, we loved the 2014 Kia Sorento SX AWD and would recommend it for sure. If I had my choice, the only think I would want included with this vehicle is the 3rd row – even though I did really love the extra storage area.

The 2014 Kia Sorento SX AWD you see here is approximately $36,800.00.

Have you driven a Kia?

We Have It All
We Have It All

  1. I love this trendy car. I’ve never actually been in a Kia or knew much about them, but this looks really nice.

  2. We love KIA. I think the blind spot detection system is fab – they have great features in their cars.

  3. Beautiful car! We have push button ignition in our Ford Explorer and it’s awesome. I never have to dig my keys out of my purse. Great pictures too by the way! 🙂

  4. That panoramic sunroof…!!!! LOVE! I wish our family could fit into one of these, cause I am really loving all of the awesome features. Backup Warning System and ample storage space are a must for families with small kids and lots of gear!

    • Alesha, we have the same issue. Six kids do not fit in very many cars lol… but now that they are all older, it’s very rare that they all come along with us. That’s why we like having a regular size car around 🙂

  5. I’ve never driven a Kia before. The pictures on this car makes it very appealing. I can’t believe how much room the storage area has. Looks great! Thanks for sharing….

  6. I drove a Kia a couple years ago and was really quite impressed with it. I like the compact size as it still feels very much like a car, not too truck-ish.

  7. Hubby works for Kia so we love the product! When we first drove it we were surprised with the power, luxury and style!

  8. Sweet ride. I love the body color of the car- sleek and gorgeous! I’ll take one please

  9. I think that the car design is really good, the colour is nice. That storage room is my favourite, I do not have much in my car and have to manage all the time where to put everything. Overall, lovely car, and would be nice to have one.

  10. That Kia is really nice. I don’t like that they left out an entire row of seats though, good for those that need storage but not good for families that needs seating. I would love the 6 speed transmission, vroom vroom baby!

  11. What a good looking ride.. and look at all the room.. Hubby and I have been talking about the Kia a lot lately,too.. the price is right and the quality is superb.. We may end up with a Kia Sorento before we know it.. Thanks for a great review

  12. Ooh, that looks beautiful! I would love to drive a vehicle in where I can fit a stroller comfortably!

  13. WHOA.

i just noticed the storage in the rear. OMG. want want want. now!!

  14. So if I read this right this vehicle can sit 8 correct?? Because we are looking to see what vehicles can sit 8 other then a mini van and most of them only seat 7 now…Thanks I am so adding this to our list to check out now…

  15. Omgoodness I am loving that panoramic sunroof! What a cool feature. I know my husband would love that.

  16. Wow looks great!! We have the Kia Sedona and love it.. Kia’s are great cars. Love all the room for the stroller and more.

  17. I LOVE Sorentos! I haven’t checked out the 2014 yet though, looks awesome!

  18. this looks so very stylish and comfortable, I can see why you liked it so much!

  19. I test drove a kia about two years ago and I did like it, we just picked something else.

  20. I especially love the sunroof and storage space in the back!

  21. Wow, that is a SWEET looking ride! My hubby actually drove a Kia for many years and when my car died we shared his for a few more years! It really lasted forever!

  22. That is a beautiful car. I have been looking at Kias for my hubby.
