Within the past year, I’ve slowly started becoming familiar with BabyBjörn products. We received the BabyBjörn booster seat and the high chair and really love these two products. So when I heard that they were coming out with a new baby carrier, I know that I wanted to try it out.
I use the stroller and the baby carrier equally. There are certain places I like to use the stroller and certain places I prefer using our carrier. When we’re out running around all weekend from store to store, I prefer using the stroller. But when we’re at events, shows or out walking around town, I prefer using the baby carrier. Our town hosts a country market every Sunday. They block off a large portion of our downtown area to set up tents where our locals sell their products. We leave the house and walk to the downtown area and the baby carrier is perfect for this kind of situation. Mike will even wear Baby Jack sometimes.
I have tried a few different carriers and tend to stick to one of them, however, it’s not our favorite. It took Baby Jack quite a while to get comfortable in it and as soon as he did, I became uncomfortable wearing him in it. I was really excited when I found out BabyBjörn was going to send me their new Baby Carrier One to review.

I have to say, as soon as I put the Baby Carrier One on and loaded Baby Jack inside, I said, “wow, this is much more comfortable than the other one”… and at the moment that is my biggest concern other than the safety of the carrier itself. I’ve been so uncomfortable for so long that I was relieved when I felt how comfortable this was.
Of course my main concern is the safety of the carrier and the way the baby sits. I stay away from the baby carriers that dangle the baby rather than having the bottom of the baby in a ‘seated’ position. The position of the baby is something that is very important to me because wearing the baby in the wrong position can cause hip dysplasia (hip dislocation). Baby Carrier One is following the recommendation of the International Hip Dysplasia Institute in order to secure an appropriate position of the baby, however, I am only comfortable facing Baby Jack inwards, not facing outwards. Personally, I am not comfortable with the dangling position he is in when he faces out. I do love the way he is positioned when facing in towards me and we are both very comfortable.
Take a look:
Do you see how Baby Jack is “seated” – not dangling.
As you can see in the pictures above, there is a head support flap that can be kept in the up position or folded own. This is one feature I really like. 99% of the time when I wear Baby Jack, I know he will go to sleep so I start with the head support down. As soon as he falls asleep, I raise it up. That is a very convenient feature.
One thing I noticed about the Baby Carrier One that is different from my others, is the shoulder straps that connect to the inner shell that the baby is secure in. Baby Jacks arms, as you can see, are below this strap. Even if he wanted to, he can not raise his arms. In my other carrier, he can chose where he wants his arms. Sometimes he like them up and over the carrier, he is more free to move around. But like I said, 99% of the time he goes to sleep when I wear him so this is not an issue for us at the moment.
The Baby Carrier One has a ‘shell’ that the baby is secured in, so there is a barrier between us. I like this for the comfort factor however, you can not breastfeed while baby wearing. This would be the only thing I would change about the Baby Carrier One, given a chance.
Overall, I really do prefer BabyBjörn Baby Carrier One over my others, mostly because of the comfort factor. I think it’s awesome that this carrier is the only one you will need from birth through 3 years of age. It’s super easy to use by yourself in every position. There is no need for an infant insert, which is another great thing about this carrier. And just like all BabyBjörn products, it is safe and free from harmful chemicals and allergens.
