KeyLime Cove Indoor Waterpark Resort
Disclaimer: There are way too many pictures in this post, but I can’t help it
Last year I was given an over night stay at KeyLime Cove Indoor Waterpark Resort in exchange for my review. We had such a good time and I mentioned that KeyLime Cove was our new favorite ‘get away’… and now a year later… it still is! When you have a large family like we do, you tend to go on more ‘get aways’ rather than ‘vacations‘ due to price.
KeyLime Cove Indoor Waterpark Resort is only about two hours away from where we live. It’s located in Gurnee, Illinois which is the same area as Six Flags.
Let me tell you a little bit about KeyLime Cove Indoor Waterpark Resort really quick…
Lost Paradise Waterpark:
- 65,000 square foot indoor Lost Paradise Waterpark.
- Always a balmy 82 degrees inside.
- Two giant body slides that are each more than 500 feet long.
Two other giant slides, the Wahoo and Screaming Banshee
The Hurricane Vortex: a swirling whirlpool ride.
Tsunami Washout Wavepool
Toukie’s Big Deluge (huge water park area for kids to play & climb around)
KeyLime Creek (Lazy River)
Adults Only Whirlpool Area (last year I didn’t get to enjoy this because I had Gracie attached to me the whole time and she was only 2… this year she was 3 and I had Baby Jack too. There’s always next year haha!)
Play Pond (Still my favorite!) – a gated area for the little one’s. A few little slides just their size and the water was shallow, so no worries!
Restaurants in the Resort:
D.W. Anderson’s: old-fashioned authentic soda fountain, 1950’s décor, burgers, sandwiches, comfort foods like ice cream creations and they also serve breakfast.
The Crazy Toucan: Specializes in refreshing tropical drinks — for all ages! Serves everything from Jerk Chicken Salad and Pulled Pork Sandwiches to Toukie’s fresh seafood creations.
Island Temptations: Coffee and lots of fresh baked goods and sweet treats.
Anna Chovy’s Pizzeria: LOVE this place!! This pizza will not disappoint!
Hot Diggety Dawgs: All-beef dogs and brats and of course fries and drinks too.
Sharky’s Big Bites: Everything from old-fashioned soft pretzels to burgers, fries, smoothies, and plenty of tasty snacks!
- RipTide Reef Arcade
- Leapin’ Lizards (Arts, crafts and games for all ages)
- Pinki’s Pet Palace (Similar to Build-a-Bear)
- The Crazy Toucan comes alive with island-inspired jams in the evening time.
- The Enchanted Lagoon Kids Spa
- Paradise Mist Spa (if you don’t have a 2 year old suction cupped to you 24/7)
- Island Hoppers Outfitters: A souvenir shop with a little bit of everything.
- LuLu’s Swim Shoppe: Everything swimwear related.
- Mangrove Jack’s: A little bit of everything opened 24 hours a day!
We stayed at KeyLime Cove Indoor Waterpark Resort for two nights and three days. We all took off from school and work on a Friday which was sooo nice. We enjoyed the whole weekend at KeyLime Cove!
We stayed in the Toucan Two Bedroom Suite. It was a wonderful! It had the living area with a sofa/pull out bed (Austin’s bed), comfy chair, kitchen table and the kitchen area had a microwave, fridge, sink and coffee pot. Everything we needed being a large family.
The Toucan Suite has two bedrooms – again perfect! One room had a king size bed and private bathroom with jacuzzi tub… that we gave up to our girls. I was so bummed. But it was easier for Mike and I to take the other bedroom and sleep with Gracie and Baby Jack. The second bedroom had 2 queen size beds. Mike and Gracie slept in one and me and Baby Jack slept in the other. This bedroom had a door to the other bathroom. Both bathrooms were beautiful and spacious.
After everyone claimed their spaces, off came the clothes and every rushed to put on their swimsuits! On our way to the pool area we stopped at LuLu’s Swim Shoppe. I promised Emma a cover-up for her swimsuit and Mike promised Gracie a new pair of flip flops. Of course Mike and Austin found a way to snag some new swim shorts and a swim shirt… not sure how that happened haha. The shop has a massive selection of swim wear and everything in between.
We headed to the pool area. Gracie was so excited to get in the water! She spent the majority of her time going down the slides over and over. Baby Jack loved the water too. I’m sure it’s because they keep the water so warm and comfortable!
The big kids hung out with us for a while and then they took off for a few hours. They enjoyed the slides and the big pool with the basketball hoops. They came back to get me and Mike and the little two when they wanted us to go down the KeyLime Creek (lazy river). Mike took Gracie and I took Baby Jack and we went through the KeyLime Creek about a bagillion times haha.
This year was so much more fun with Gracie being another year older. She had such a great time in the water and on the slides. We made it pretty late and then everyone was H.U.N.G.R.Y.
We remembered that last year we loved the pizza and wings from Anna Chovy’s Pizzeria so that was the first place we wanted to eat during our stay. They have a fantastic special with 2 pizzas, wings and pop. We got it last year and we HAD TO get it again this year. We LOVED that pizza and the wings rock! We brought our food back up to our room, ate and then left again to go play.
Mike and the kids went to the arcade and I took Gracie to Leapin’ Lizards to check out the arts and crafts. Once she was done, we met the others in the arcade. It was late too haha. The resort shops and restaurants have great hours.
After the arcade we went to D.W. Anderson’s for ice cream sundae’s. Yum! We headed to our room to get comfy in our pj’s after that. We were BEAT!
The next day we spent at the pool until afternoon time. We ate burgers and hot dogs at Hot Diggety Dawgs and then I had an appointment at Paradise Mist Spa with Emma and Becca for Pedi’s. The staff was friendly. It was nice to get pampered for a bit and then enjoyed the waterpark the rest of the day.
While us girls were busy getting pampered, Mike took Baby Jack and Gracie back to Leapin’ Lizards to paint a turtle and then to the make a stuffed penguin at Pinki’s Pet Palace which is similar to Build-a-Bear.
Behind the Scenes Tour
Our third day was check-out day. We woke up and packed everything back up and loaded the car. I took the four big kids down to the waterpark that morning before it opened.
We were scheduled for a ‘behind the scenes’ tour.
Our guides took us through the waterpark explaining how everything and everyone worked. Then we went down below the park. We got to learn much more and the man let Gracie turn on the water pumps for the day. It was fun and so informative!
I loved hearing about some of the details of KeyLime Cove. I found out that KeyLime Cove uses the heat from the linen driers to heat the pools – isn’t that a great idea to save money and energy!?! I also found out another thing that I really love… KeyLime Cove uses Ozone Technology to keep the water clean. Not just chlorine like other waterparks and local pools. Call me a dork, but everyone who follows my posts know how I feel about chemicals. I can’t stand the thought of soaking in chlorinated water, knowing that the chemicals are seeping into our bodies through our pours. Anyway, KeyLime Cove uses a state of the art ozone disinfection system with provides impeccable water quality and clarity as well as air quality. This system destroys 99.9% of bacteria, viruses, spores, fungus and mold. It leaves the water sparkling clear and fresh! I did notice that when you walk into the pool area, you do not smell the strong chlorine that you usually do at pools, but it didn’t dawn on me as to why. I love this and I couldn’t wait to get back up to the room to tell Mike.
Yes, I’m a dork.
See? I told you haha.
Anyway… after our tour and breakfast, Gracie had an appointment at The Enchanted Lagoon Kids Spa to get a little pampering too. She was super shy but she loved it! She got a mani/pedi and a sparkly tattoo! And then she got to make her own sparkly lip glosses, she loved it.
Gracie loved her nail polish on her fingers and toes and really loved her lip glosses. She still is carrying them around and it’s been a couple of weeks.
We had purchased a pass that had lots of coupon/discounts on it so we still had a free airbrushed tattoo coming so when Gracie was done at her spa, we took Emma to get her tattoo. She got her name tattooed in cursive on her wrist haha.
Even though we had to pack up and be out of our room for check out, we were still able to enjoy the resort for the entire day, which was very nice.
We eventually made our way out and headed home.
Such a bummer we had to leave. We had such a great time and totally did not want to leave!
If you live within a few hours of Gurnee, Illinois then I urge you to make time for a visit to KeyLime Cove Indoor Waterpark Resort. It’s really worth the trip and your whole family will really enjoy themselves!
THANKS KEYLIME COVE!
