This past weekend Baby Jack had his photo shoot for ’21 Dreams… Stories That Will Open Your Eyes To Life’ – which is a Down Syndrome Awareness Book. The photo shoot was in Indianapolis, Indiana. This is about four hours away from where we live. We are about an hour west of Chicago so it was a pretty long car ride with the two little one’s. We ended up stopping twice within the 4 hour ride.
The photo shoot was only 20 minutes long – so four hours in the car for only having to be in Indianapolis for 20 minutes doesn’t make much sense. Luckily enough, I was able to get media passes to the Indianapolis Zoo and Children’s Museum for review along with an overnight stay at the Hilton.
Arrival at the Hilton Indianapolis
The Hilton is right in the center of downtown Indianapolis on Market Street, which was so convenient and exactly what we needed. Baby Jack’s photo shoot was 2 miles away, so we were nice and close. The Indy Zoo and Children’s Museum was just a minute away too so we couldn’t have been offered a better spot to stay. There are other Hilton locations located nearby but I was very happy with our location.
The Hilton staff was immediately accommodating right off the bat. We arrived into town a few hours too early. I did want to be early, just that early. I called to ask about check-in time and they told me that my room would be ready for me – even though I was hours early.
I was already impressed.
We arrived at the Hilton and immediately had fantastic service. The bell hop loaded all of our luggage instantly and even helped us up to our room and the valet parking staff were wonderful – they had the car all ready to go and came all the way up to the front desk to let me know I forgot my purse in the car.
We attended Baby Jack’s photo shoot and it was over in about ten minutes. We were then free to enjoy downtown Indianapolis!
Downtown Indianapolis reminded us of Chicago with the tall buildings, only about a quarter of the size though. There is a lot of history so we spent a few hours walking around site-seeing.
We found a mall and an awesome Italian restaurant to stuff ourselves before we headed back to the hotel.
2 Queen Beds Deluxe Room Suite
We were given a Double Queen Bed Suite. This suite had two queen size beds in one room and in the next room was the living area with a sofa (queen pull-out bed), chair, large desk and TV. The two rooms were separated by double doors which was really nice for privacy. Austin slept in the other room with the sofa sleeper. The bathroom was really spacious with a second vanity in the dressing area. The room was over 665 square feet and sleeps up to six. This room would have very easily accommodated all seven of us if we had all of the kids with us. Especially since Gracie and Baby Jack sleep with us, in our bed.
I do have to share this story… even though I am going to sound like a mean mom. This photo below is the changing area just outside of the bathroom. It’s a nice little area. One side, as you can see, is a sink and mirror and the other side has sliding doors to the closet. These sliding doors are mirrored. As you can see in the photo on the left – the view through the mirrors looks like this little room goes on and on… and if you can also see… Gracie is in the shot. Running. Yes, running. In a Hilton hotel room. Probably not a good idea, right?
Well she was running pretty fast while I was laying down in bed feeding Baby Jack and she really thought that ‘room’ went on and on – as it appears…
And then BANG!
She ran right into those double doors.
I SWEAR I never laughed so hard in my entire life. Poor Jack was bobbing all around as my body heaved in laughter. I had tears rolling down my face. Poor Gracie was really confused as she sat on the ground with birdies flying above her head haha.
See? I told you that I would sound like a mean mom… but I just couldn’t help it.
Pool and Fitness
Anyway, later that night after all was said and done, we made our way up to the 19th floor to the pool. There is a nice big pool and hot tub. Austin and Mike took Gracie in to swim while I sat out with Jack. It was about 10pm and I was pretty sleepy. The ceiling has windows, I bet it’s nice and bright during the daytime!
A floor down was the fitness room. Believe it or not, Mike hopped on a machine for a run really quick. We have taken him off of his diabetic medication so we are watching his carb intake and exercise. Considering we ate pasta earlier at Bucca di Beppo… he needed to lower his blood sugar number and a quick run is all it takes.
That night we did order room service pretty late. The Hilton is very accommodating and you can order food at any time of day or night. They even have a different menu for the middle of the night meals. The food was excellent too. I had baked french onion soup and a Cesar salad – very good!
The next morning I woke up early Baby Jack woke me up early so I started packing our bags. I enjoyed coffee and peace and when Gracie woke up I got her ready. We woke up the boys and eventually we were able to make our way down and check out. The valet service brought our car up, loaded our bags and then parked it in front of the hotel while we stayed inside to get Gracie some breakfast.
We were planning on spending the rest of the day split between the Indianapolis Zoo and the Children’s Museum so we wanted to be sure Gracie had some food in her tummy. It was later than I wanted to get started so Mike and Austin wanted to go through a drive-thru for some easy lunch on the way. We ate at the 120 West Market restaurant inside the Hilton. It had a fabulous breakfast buffet… but I really only wanted coffee. I wanted a big lunch later. Mike and I enjoyed our coffee while Gracie and Austin filled up a bit.
We had a really nice stay at the Hilton. Our room was very spacious, clean and the staff is so accommodating! The Hilton is situated in the heart of Indianapolis, on Market Street, which is perfect for shopping and dining. I would have loved to had an extra night. In fact, we never made it to the Children’s Museum and we plan on going back. I would love to try the Hilton Garden Inn which is located about a half a block from Monument Circle, Downtown Indianapolis.
Baby Jack says the beds are comfy and he gives our stay a ‘two thumbs-up’!
